Kurn’s Sunday Brain Dump 11

Shockingly, I am posting this on a Sunday! Will wonders never cease?

I can’t believe it’s Sunday already and I have to go back to work tomorrow. We built the world wrong, gang. SIGH.

Topic 1:

I need a challenge of sorts to do. Please give me one.

I probably won’t continue with my Whelplocked challenge because it’s basically boring, which is something I’m realizing now. Did Kurn get the whelp or not? And how long does someone have to watch to see if Kurn got the whelp? Boring. So give me a challenge! Or many challenges and I’ll pick one! Please? Pretty please? I’ve got 7 days left on my current token, so I’m looking for something to do. (And I’m intrigued by “heroic” world stuff, but not sure if that’ll be enough to keep me interested.)

Topic 2:

Speaking of challenges, I started watching this guy doing two challenges simultaneously. He is trying to get 1 million gold (in cash) on a toon solely from what he gets out of Scarlet Monestary (on Sokratez) and 1 million gold (in cash) on a toon solely from what he gets out of Zul’Farrak (on Bofades). He’s about 11% of the way there on Bofades (the Troll druid) and maybe 8% (?) of the way there on Sokratez (the Worgen druid), but Sokratez has looted some sweet drops, so that challenge could be over any day now, if one of those sweet drops sells. Anyway, it’s SUPER interesting, so go check it out. Episodes out almost every day, each is about 10 minutes long.

For funsies, I’ve started running old-school SM armory and cath and have gotten some decent drops too. Nothing amazing, but hopefully some of this stuff will sell. I’ve got alts on other servers to help with that, too.

Topic 3:

Anything you want me to talk about for Storytime? Perhaps one of these would be interesting to tell:

– The history of me and Majik

– The Night Kurn Drank Red Haterade

– Why I rolled Madrana (holy paladin)

Let me know!

  1. Well, I don’t have a challenge for you, but I’d like to hear something about your podcast days: what led you to doing a podcast, how did things work out, and what led to the podcast ending? I’m biased a bit, since I often think of people starting podcasts are akin to people starting blogs*, but I figure that there is always a story behind the entire podcast experience.

Red Haterade? Okay, I am curious about that one…

*”Hey, let’s start a blog together! Are you interested?”
    “Okay!”
And that’s how my blog, Parallel Context, began back in 2009.

    1. Sorry for the delay, my friend, I have been swamped this past week!

The podcast stuff is kind of simple. Majik and I spent a LOT of time talking about WoW towards the end of Wrath of the Lich King. (Well, we were always talking a lot about WoW, even before that…) And we were reforming Apotheosis for Cataclysm, so I thought it might be a good idea to separate us from billions of other guilds by having a WoW podcast with me and Majik. This could serve as an informational tool (re: the game, patch notes, etc), plus a recruitment tool (because we would always talk about what we were doing in the game). We got a few people from the podcast, too! And I remember someone in guild saying “I was just in a dungeon with someone and they saw my guild name and went ‘are you in KURN’S Apotheosis???'” So for a while there, we had some name recognition. Several of our members got things named after them in-game, too.

https://www.wowhead.com/item=111522/tikari-k-a-y-t – named for our rogue officer, Tikari, and his GF (now wife), Kayt
https://www.wowhead.com/item=141566/serrinnes-maleficent-habit – named for one of our priests, Serrinne (Sara)
https://www.wowhead.com/npc=82982/halsteth-ravenwood – a follower in WoD, named for one of our druids, Hestiah

(Fun fact, Majik didn’t know about this until recently and was like “did you HACK Wowhead?!?!?!” He just couldn’t believe that our little guild had earned this kind of recognition.)

So like, the goal was to have a place to talk about game stuff, plus act as a recruiting tool. It went super well, but we had less and less time and less inclination to continue once Maj and I decided to step down from raiding after Cataclysm, so we ended the podcast.

Red Haterade will have to wait for another day.

hahahaha, love how your blog started!
