Not too much to say, just posted a couple of videos this week, both showing me healing Classic Timewalking Dungeons.
And then I ran the remaining four dungeons yesterday, and I also discuss tanks in general, dungeons in general, and of course probably use the phrase “back in my day” a dozen times or so…
That’s it for this week. What are you up to? Did you do any Classic timewalking? What do you think about running a dungeon solely to complete it, versus running it because you enjoy it or running it to get a specific piece of gear? I’d be interested to know.
I definitely run instances because I enjoy them. I’ve done the rinse and repeat method of hunting for specific gear drops (my NE Rogue still has never gotten the Hand of Justice out of BRD), and I’ve done the “gotta run it to get attuned/to do your dailies” thing as well, and I’m kind of over all that. I’ve also run enough pugs over the years that my tolerance for toxic behavior is pretty low, so if I’m going to run an instance it will have to be because I enjoy it.
Then again, I tend to have some weird tastes, and instances that people avoid (Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom, for example) I really enjoy. There is the matter of me tending to zig when everybody else zags, such as when everybody runs Magister’s Terrace to raise their reputations on Quel’Danas (the OG Q’D, that is) until they’re sick of it and stop doing it, that’s when I’ll be interested in running it.

Toxic behaviour seems all too common, unfortunately, so I feel you there. (See latest video in my new post.) Looking at the Timewalking possibilities this week, I figured I didn’t hate any of them enough to NOT go. I do like flexing my healing muscles now and then. And Madrana dinged 90 in the process.
Old Kingdom only sucks (imho) when you don’t have someone effing interrupting the… whatever they’re called, in the first several packs. Once you focus and/or interrupt them, it’s a fine instance. The end boss is a little long, but it’s different. (Do not get me started on the failures of people on Jedoga Shadowseeker. KILL THE VOLUNTEER, PEOPLE. Sheesh. But yeah, running some dungeons, even if I don’t like them, are fine once or twice every few months.
Interesting zig vs zag strategy! Is there a particular reason behind it? I’d be curious to know more!
Oh yes, the people who don’t focus the volunteer in the Shadowseeker fight is kind of breathtaking. I know I switch DPS, but frequently I’m not able to DPS the volunteer down by myself, so everything goes sideways and somehow the healer gets blamed. Considering I started WoW leveling a Holy Pally back in the day, I resent that a bit.
Oh, the zig vs zag strategy arose because I got annoyed at people trying to push me into doing certain things. (“Do your dailies!”) That’s a long-standing issue of mine that arose way back in the mists of time (the 80s) when I refused to go along with what the popular kids did. To be honest, if I followed what the popular kids did, I’d not be into video games and tabletop RPGs at all, so that’s kind of ironic that I refuse to follow the crowd in MMOs.
Another reason why I don’t follow the crowd is that I’ve discovered that when you’re swept up in the crowd the number of people who love to “GOGOGO” and speedrun through an instance spikes. I’m just not into speedrunning, so by avoiding the crowd I also avoid the speedrunners.
“Breathtaking” is a good word for how I feel about a LOT of players. Like what the heck are people thinking. Sorry, no, healers are NOT SUPPOSED to be able to heal through all the empowerments Jegoda can go through! MAYBE one (if the tank also blows cooldowns) but not both.
Ooooh, interesting background on the zig/zagness. I don’t love following the crowd either, tbh. Give me a nice pace of a dungeon, you know? Not skipping mobs, but an efficient run where you stop if the healer needs mana, for example. Lordy.
The general public and I just do not play this game the same way, and what I realized a while ago is that I’m not the demo they want playing this game. So I just do my own thing, which is mostly trying to make money and have fun. :D
