Well, I got to playing a bit of Hardcore this week. I managed to escape two moments where I was surely going to die within about five minutes of one another.
And I made a short of the big moment where I was about to eat it.
And then, last night, I did more stuff, including dinging 36.
I’m mostly doing the hardcore stuff because I’m bored on retail. I know the patch comes out like tomorrow, so that’s good, but I do enjoy the immersion of hardcore. And the challenge of it. I just hadn’t touched it in something like ohhhhhhhhhhh two years! hahaha! So I’ll probably do more of that while I attempt to make all the monies in retail.
Have you tried hardcore? What’s your highest level and what class was it? 36 pally is definitely mine. My brother got a mage to 51 and died and was very, very sad (and mad) about it.
If you haven’t tried hardcore, is there any particular reason why not? I’d be interested to know.
Ah, Hardcore. My old friend. I suck at you, and those damn Defias Pillagers have a target on my back.
The last time I did a Hardcore-esque thing, it was when the Anniversary Servers launched TBC, and you could visit an NPC in Undercity and (I think) Ironforge to get a buff/debuff that showed if you’d died yet. My BE Mage lasted until L18 when she was defeated by respawns on the road to Windrunner Spire in The Ghostlands, and my BE Pally lasted until L19.5 when he got swarmed by respawns (again), this time in the Dead Scar. When you’re a level or two above your enemies and you see “Miss Miss Miss” your brain is screaming “OH CRAP I HAVE TO LEAVE” but you stick around because you only need “one more hit” to down this mob… Yeah, I’m not chicken enough to survive in Hardcore that long.
That being said, in official Hardcore I do have a Human Mage that made it into the low 20s and it still alive. I was amused when she dinged L20 and it got an in-game mail that said “Congratulations! Now that you’ve hit L20 you’ve shown some decent skills, and we’d like to invite you to our guild.” (I passed.)
Maybe I ought to go pull that Hardcore Mage out of the garage and spend some time not-dying in Redridge.
Beware overconfidence! Overconfidence is what always gets me. I’m good at this game but I keep forgetting how often I have died…
20 isn’t bad! The guild invite is pretty funny, love it. :)
