I REALLY have to make the effort to update this after every raid night, because they really do start to blur together…
We got Freya on Monday. She wasn’t too bad, once people realized they couldn’t kill all of one kind of a mob all at once. They did that the first attempt and blew the raid to smithereens.
Then we worked on Mimiron.
Trash to him isn’t great, but the tram is fun. The worst part of Monday night was, just before our last attempt, the numbskull of a tank decided to pull the bombs just outside of Mimiron’s room INTO THE GROUP who had ALREADY gotten past them. Blowing us up. And then he laughed about it. SIGH. I told the RL that if that guy pulled that shit again, I’d leave the raid. So I hear on vent “enough screwing around” etc. And then I wrote back to the RL “no, not just tonight. I will leave the raid if he does that shit EVER AGAIN.”
I understand having fun, but purposely wiping the raid is the lamest of the lame.
Anyways, Mimiron to phase 3, nearly phase 4, on the first night of attempts. Not too shabby.
Of course, last night was Tuesday, so it was back to Flame Leviathan and everyone else.
Last week, they killed Ignis after I had to leave the raid, so when we did him last night, I got two achievements:
That’s always nice. :)
We did FL, IG, RZ, XT, Iron Council, Kologarn, Auriaya and Hodir. 8 bosses. No wonder I was so exhausted I nearly fell asleep while trying to write this up last night.
When Hodir died, the priest lead wasn’t in the raid. Which is good. Why? A Fragment of Val’anyr dropped.
And guess who’s second in the guild for the crafting? That’s right. Me.
So, hooray for that, I guess. Now that I have one, they basically HAVE to keep giving them to me if the priest isn’t in the raid. ;)
Tonight, Thorim (where I will doubtlessly be running through the tunnels, because I don’t SUCK), Freya (which isn’t a very difficult fight, to be honest) and Mimiron.
It’s nice to get through to new content on the second raid night of a reset, to be honest. In Apotheosis, as much as I loved my guild (and I really did), there were weeks where we wouldn’t get as far as we had in previous weeks. I really don’t understand where we would lose all this speed. Our raids were always glacially slow except in Hyjal when, you know, we couldn’t be slow. And then eventually we mastered BT trash and powered through that stuff, too.
Ugh, I’m seriously beginning to wonder if I’m cut out for this cog-in-the-machine thing. I like it, but it has its own frustrations. At least I KNOW the frustrations that come from being a leader… Whatever else I do, I have GOT to stop daydreaming about the BC days and wishing we could put THAT team, more or less, into Wrath content. It’s hard, because I KNOW we could do better on some things than my current guild. We just didn’t have the people, ultimately.
And it still makes me sad. :(

First off, grats on all the progress you’ve made. You’re having such an easy time compared to what little progress I’ve made.
“Alright, WC down, let’s check out… What’s next, Shadowfang Keep?”
Also, congrats on the fragment. Is that the second drop for the guild, or were there a few you haven’t mentioned/I forgot?
I totally know what you mean about questioning your role in a guild. Even early on, despite my lack of raid experience, I always hated not having a pivotal role. I had only read up on the Nightbane fight, but even I knew that when he went in the air, you didn’t want to focus fire on individual spawns. Where was the Holy Nova? Consecration? Hell, the warrior could have hit a Thunderclap, right? The healers would invariably be casting things like Flash of Light on me because I had aggro, because one of the warriors would waste something like a Shield Slam on one of the spawns, which left me to Ice Block when I had too many on me. Tell me I’m not (completely) wrong here?
But I digress. If you ever feel like getting back into a leadership role, even for lower-level stuff (Molten Core was supposed to be a bitch at 60, but I still want to try it) I would be more than happy to have you help me out. I definitely want to get a raiding guild together once I get back into the game, and you pretty much have a standing invite. And I promise, we’ll skip BT/Hyjal/SWP until we get Ulduar+ gear. ;)
The progress comes at the price of 30-some deaths a night and rampant frustration in raids. I’m not sure I like it, but I do like the progress, so I guess that evens out.
I think that there had been three fragments dropped already that the priest had, then this one, and I think he’s gotten two more. So he’s got five and I’ve got one. It’s TOTALLY a pally mace. It’s got every single stat we use and none that we don’t. Druids won’t like it much because of the crit and lack of spirit. Priests won’t like it because of the lack of spirit. Shamans will lament its lack of mp5. But paladins? Perfect, perfect itemization.

With regards to Nightbane, yes, AOE was FTW. I used my bubble on that fight a LOT, I gave people what was then called Blessing of Protection (the clothies, anyways) and did what I could to help (Holy Wrath, Consecration). Usually our OT would be okay about picking them up, but on the rare occasion that we didn’t have a decently geared OT or that we had a DPS OT, our MT picked them up to the best of their ability. Wow, I cannot REMEMBER the last time I ran Karazhan…
Not to defend warriors, exactly, but their multi-tanking abilities were really poor pre-3.0. If you didn’t have a pally to grab those guys, it usually was pretty poor. Frost Traps, Blizzard, Arcane Explosion would be a good plan for those phases.
Great, now I want to go solo Kara on my paladin…
I think I’m being promoted to healing lead this coming week, actually. Which, on the one hand, YAY, SOMEONE WILL ORGANIZE SHIT. And on the other, son of a bitch, I fail at being a cog in the machine. :P
Also. If you think I’m EVER going back to Hyjal or BT, you are out of your ever-lovin’ mind! Exalted with both, tyvm, because I spent six months in those instances. SO MUCH WITH THE DONE. :) But if things don’t work out with this guild, leadershippy crap in another guild may be an option. :)
Yeah, warriors as AoE offtanks were pretty sucktacular in my experience. Ah well.
And to be honest, I don’t really want to experience BT at 70. I liked the quests to get attuned, but it really seemed (from the second-hand knowledge, of course) that it was all just exemplifying the aspects of the gear grind that I hate oh-so-much.
Val’anyr looks AMAZING. I would roll a healbot just to get that.
